Swiss Federal Railways announced on Friday that it has reached a licensing agreement with Apple over the use of its iconic clock design in the iPad version of iOS 6.
The minimalist clock in question was developed by engineer and designer Hans Hilfiker for the Swiss train service (SBB) in 1944. It’s been used throughout the train system ever since and can also be found in some Mondaine watches.
“SBB isn’t hurt, but proud that his icon of watch design is being used by a globally active and successful business,” an SBB spokesperson told Reuters when the uncanny resemblance came to light in late September.
The amount that SBB has licensed this design for is not being publicly released.
